Charlie is a 14-year-old from Ascot Vale with his own small business, Charlie by Art. Diagnosed with autism at the age of three, Charlie’s passion for art began in primary school. 🎨🖌
“I am autistic and that means that my brain works a bit differently and some things like learning at school can be hard for me,” Charlie said. “My mum always tells me that it is like having a superpower and I have a really good memory.”
@charliebyart came to life in 2019 when Charlie exhibited his art and sold greeting cards at the Awetism Expo run by the ICAN network, an autistic-led organisation providing support for autistic young people. “I had so many great drawings and paintings and so my mum and I decided to make a small business and website to sell my art as greeting cards,” Charlie said.
Since then, Charlie has been selling his greetings cards through his website and local markets, and even took part in Moonee Valley’s pilot Artists’ and Makers’ Market this year. In 2019 Charlie met Premier Daniel Andrews and was asked to design his Christmas cards.
Charlie’s small business has increased his independence, confidence and learning. Check out Charlie’s work and learn more via the link in @cityofmooneevalley bio 🔗
